OPINION: Good ol Joe Biden re-signed America up to the Paris Accord on his first day in office. He shuttered the Keystone KL pipeline and created a new Civilian Climate Corps to work on environmental projects.
He announced a whole-of-government commitment that every federal infrastructure investment would have to reduce climate pollution and called a virtual Earth Day Summit for April 22.
There s a big new UN climate conference scheduled for November in Glasgow, but Smokin Joe didn t want to wait that long. His summit is intended to prompt countries everywhere to upgrade their commitments for 2030, ahead of Glasgow.

Four gray whales found dead in eight days in San Francisco Bay area

In the span of eight days, four gray whales were found dead in the San Francisco Bay area, their carcasses washed ashore on beaches and state parks.
Experts at the Marine Mammal Center, the world s largest marine mammal hospital, said it s the most gray-whale deaths they have seen in a short span since 2019, when the center performed 13 whale necropsies. It s a lot of whales to have stranded in our small area within a week, Pádraig Duignan, the center s director of pathology, told The Washington Post. We ve had four whales come out of nowhere - no premonition or warning that this was on the way.

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - Friends of PACC is one of more than 1,000 non-profits registered for Arizona Gives Day, which is Tuesday, April 6.
Arizona Gives Day is an annual drive to help organizations across the state.
The groups need help this year more than ever. According to the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits,
The mission of Friends of PACC is to support the work of Pima Animal Care Center and enhance its efforts to save the lives of pets in need. It is their vision that every pet who comes to PACC is supported with the resources needed to find a loving home.

Very shortly, Connecticut’s moratorium on utility shut-offs will end, and then what happens?
Though hope springs eternal, if utility company’s past practices are any indication, things will not go smoothly.
It may be hard to believe, but not all states implemented such shut-off moratoriums during the pandemic, and unpaid utility bills have risen to an estimated $27 billion nationwide, according to Mark Wolfe, executive director of the National Energy Assistance Directors Association. After reviewing shut-off data from around the country, the Center for Biological Diversity said roughly 765,000 households had power cut during the pandemic, with disastrous results. A paper from Duke University estimates that a federal ban (similar to the one in place on evictions) would have reduced COVID-19 infections by 4.4%, and deaths by 7.4%.
