KBR employees working on Sellafield Ltd s Programme and Project Partners (PPP) contract in the North West of England are set to be joined by six new intern recruits, after they successfully completed a four-week virtual skills academy to prepare them for the workplace. The PPP internship scheme seeks to bring new blood into PPP and provide first-class employment and career development opportunities to young people in the local community, particularly those who have previously struggled to find sustained, quality employment.
Almost 50 primary schools taking part in the 2021 Bright Stars challenge programme quizzed Cumbria’s MPs who shared their experience and tips about how to lead campaigns to change something the children care about. Copeland MP Trudy Harrison and Workington MP Mark Jenkinson joined Cumbria’s four other MPs to take part in individual live online question and answer sessions with schools in their constituencies. The sessions produced a huge variety of questions and answers about how they support their communities and lead change. Trudy Harrison answered questions about encouraging more recycling and deterring fly tipping, about her work in 10 Downing Street as the Prime Minister’s Parliamentary Private Secretary, and advised children on the importance of explaining why something needs to change.

Barrow & Furness MP Simon Fell and Westmorland & Lonsdale MP Tim Farron joined Cumbria’s four other MPs to take part in individual live online Q&A sessions with schools in their constituencies. The sessions produced a huge variety of questions and answers about how they support their communities and lead change. Mr Fell was quizzed about reducing litter and road safety and advised on how to start a campaign and make it stand out.
Subjects ranged from how to start a campaign and make it successful, the best ways to work as a team, changing people’s mindsets and involving them in campaigns, to working with Boris Johnson, creating publicity, and an MP’s favourite soup.
Bright Stars partners primary schools with local companies to help pupils set up and run their own mini businesses, encouraging leadership and a culture of aspiration and enterprise.
For Bright Stars 2021 the focus has shifted from making a profit – to making a difference by creating digital marketing campaigns to champion the worthwhile causes chosen by the children.
The innovative eight-week programme is delivered by the Centre for Leadership Performance in collaboration with businesses and schools and finishes on Monday June 28.

Pupils from 13 Copeland schools quizzed their MP on how to make positive change within their communities.
13 schools across Copeland including Moor Row Community Primary School, Gosforth Cof E Primary School and Keswickâs St Herbert’s are taking part in this Bright Stars Business Challenge which aims to help youngsters understand how to run an effective campaign on an area of importance to them.
They met with Copeland MP Trudy Harrison online.
The live Q&A session saw primary schools pupils across the county meet with Cumbriaâs MPs to understand more about how they support their communities and lead change.
