Summit County reports 136 COVID-19 cases over the week

Summit County reported 136 new cases and two additional hospitalizations due to the novel coronavirus over the week, according to the county’s coronavirus webpage. The total number of cases is now at 2,346 and 65.

The total number of cases in the county is now at 2,134. This week is the first week since October that the county has reported fewer than 100 new cases. On Tuesday, Dec. 29, the county announced its fourth death due to the virus. A 47-year-old man died on Dec. 7 at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs of respiratory failure brought on by COVID-19.

COVID-19 tests are available seven days a week to any community member experiencing known COVID-19 symptoms. Summit County reported 149 new cases and two hospitalizations of residents due to the novel coronavirus over the week, according to the county’s coronavirus webpage. The county surpassed 2,000 total cases since the beginning of the pandemic. As of Friday, the county was reporting 2,039 cases. A total of 49 residents have been hospitalized since March 5. The county reported seven additional COVID-19 hospitalizations among nonresidents in the past week.

The total number of cases now stands at 1,890. The total number of hospitalizations among residents since March 5 remains at 47. However, the county did report 14 hospitalizations among nonresidents over the week. Although it remains in level red, Summit County’s two-week incidence rate continues to decline. As of Friday, Dec. 18, the county’s rate was at 861.8 new cases per 100,000 people, which is down 226.2 cases per 100,000 people since last week, according to the state’s dial dashboard . The county’s testing positivity rate dropped over the week, as well. As of Friday, the positivity rate the percentage of positive tests out of all tests was at 8.3%, down 2% from last week. The positivity rate is now in level yellow on the state’s dial.
