A New York woman who lost her job is using some of her free time to help feed thousands of people in her community.
Sofia Moncayo leads a group of volunteers who give out food to those in need in a neighborhood in Queens. On a recent rainy day, a large crowd lined up outside the Mosaic West Queens Church to receive free food.
During the pandemic, Sofia Moncayo has led a food distribution program through Mosaic West Queens Church. She was furloughed from her job in June and remains unemployed. But she has continued to lead fundraisers and coordinate volunteers.

Personally, I was furloughed from my job for myself and a lot of people that come to volunteer. I know I ve heard from many people that say that being able to help somebody else has helped them. It s tough work uploading £2030 boxes, and it s tiring. But there s always that sense of energy. There s always that sense of pride, what we re doing, and that s kind of guesses through this being something like this is really rewarding because it gets us up in the morning and it gives us a purpose.
