FinMin report also says GVA is a better metric to track economy than GDP
Rapid production and deployment of Covid-19 vaccination will be critical in taking forward the health stimulus deep into FY22 (FY 22), a report prepared by the Finance Ministry’s Economic Affairs Department said on Friday.
This remark has come at a time when the country is going through the second phase of vaccination that aims to cover 30 crore people by August.
The government has provided over ₹2.34-lakh crore for health and well-being in the Budget for FY 22.
According to the report, India is well-positioned to become the largest producer of vaccine in the world and currently ranked third behind the US and the UK in administering vaccine doses.

The Statistical Institute of Belize held its first press conference of the year on Wednesday. The virtual presentation was held to discuss the preliminary reports of the country’s three main economic indicators. The first of the three presentations focused on Gross Domestic Products (GDP) for the fourth quarter of 2020. Statistician Jacqueline Sabal presented the findings.
The International Monetary Fund’s Resident Representative for Nigeria, Mr. Ari Aisen, in this interview with journalists, shed more light on the Fund’s recently released Article IV on Nigeria. He also stressed the need for the country to diversify its economy. Obinna Chima presents the excerpts:
We learnt recently that the IMF has deployed advisors to support the Nigeria Customs Service and the Federal Inland Revenue Service, can you explain how this arrangement works; also considering that crude oil price is now above $60 per barrel, don’t you think the Nigerian economy will recover faster?
We would do quite a bit of technical assistance not only in Customs, but in other areas such as in taxation and financial management in other government agencies. India s GDP grows 0.4% in Q3 FY21
After two consecutive quarters of contraction, India s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 0.4 per cent in December quarter of the current fiscal (Q3 FY21), indicating that the economy has managed to exit the COVID-19 triggered recession. After recording worst-ever contraction of 24.4 per cent in Q1 FY21 (April-June), followed by 7.3 per cent fall in Q2 (July-September), India s Q3 performance is now eliciting different responses from experts.
The Indian economy has finally bounced back into growth territory in the October-December period after two consecutive quarters of GDP contractions. Official data released by the government showed that the GDP has grown 0.4 per cent in the December quarter.
