Ghana: Press highlights take off of National Development Bank in July, others

The Times reports that the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has said the National Development Bank (NDB) will begin its operations by end of July this year. The Bank, according to him, would provide long term wholesale financing to the private sector through Commercial banks.

BOST clears GH¢237m debt to banks - Denies claims of underperformance

The money, which was owed GCB Bank, Fidelity Bank, UMB Bank and UBA Bank, was paid through government’s intervention, internally generated funds and the upward adjustment of the BOST margin. In a release issued by BOST, the company noted that it had also paid $573 million out of its $623 million debt to suppliers and related parties, and successfully vetted the $36 million claims from products lost claims from Bulk Distribution Companies (BDCs) down to $14.8 million.

NPA reduces GHp17 fuel margin hike to GHp9 effective Today

Energy Minister Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh in a meeting with the OMCs The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has reduced the GHp17 per litre increase in fuel margins to GHp9 pesewas per litre. The price change takes effect from Wednesday, 5 May 2021. A statement issued on 4 May 2021 indicated: “At a meeting held at the Ministry of Energy earlier today between the Hon. Minister of Energy and the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), the Association of Oil Marketing Companies (AOMCs), Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Co Ltd (BOST), the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), the Institute for Energy Policies and Research (INSTEPR), it has been agreed as follows; the 17 pesewas per litre increase in fuel margins previously announced by the NPA has been reduced to 9 pesewas per litre effective tomorrow, Wednesday, 5th May 2021”.
