SCHOOL DISTRICT SEEKING PARENT INPUT ON SUMMER PROGRAM

The Morongo Unified School District will offer an expanded learning program for students in transitional kindergarten through 12th grades this summer. Reporter Andrew Dieleman says the school district is seeking input on the program from district parents… MUSD is seeking input from district parents on the summer expanded learning program, which will offer students the opportunity for in-person socialization and mastery of academic skills. Priority enrollment will go to students with disabilities, credit deficient and failing students, those learning English, and students in foster care or experiencing homelessness. The program is scheduled for Mondays through Thursdays, June 21 through July 30. Parents are asked to complete one survey for each of their students attending MUSD. A survey link is available below.

Newsom pushes to reopen California public schools but faces resistance

Jocelyn Gecker, Janie Har and Amy Taxin Associated Press Gov. Gavin Newsom said Wednesday that all California schools should reopen when the new academic year begins next fall. His frustration was evident: “Money is not an object now. It’s an excuse, he said. “I want all schools to reopen. I’ve been crystal clear about that.” Newsom spoke at an elementary school in Santa Rosa that began welcoming students back this week. SCHOOL BOARD APPROVES INDOOR ATHLETICS

The Morongo Unified School District board of trustees held a special meeting last night do discuss allowing the return of indoor athletics for student athletes. Reporter Andrew Dieleman has the details… At last night’s special meeting, Director of Secondary Curriculum Justin Howard outlined the district’s extensive proposal for allowing student athletes to return to indoor sports, primarily boys and girls basketball and wrestling. After a brief discussion, the board voted 4-0 (Trustee Kerri Condley being absent) to approve indoor athletics beginning April 19. The estimated 75-100 student athletes will be required to undergo mandatory COVID-19 testing twice per week with only approved athletes, coaches, and spectators allowed at practices and games.
