The public is invited to watch law enforcement parade in Montcalm County to honor the death of retired Police Chief José Patino.
Patino worked for the county sheriff’s office for 36 years, which included time spent as a detective lieutenant. He went on to work for the Edmore Police Department and became the Chief of Police in Stanton before retiring in September.
The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office says he died Friday at the age of 67 “after a short battle with illness.”
The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook saying,
“Joe’s investigative talents were second to none and touched the lives of many. Joe was known for his knowledge of criminal investigations, his care for victims, and even his fair treatment of suspects. Under Joe’s direction, the detective bureau was very successful and was respected within the entire region assisting many outside agencies. Joe served as an investigator

The Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly two car crash.
It happened just after 8 a.m. Wednesday morning on Greenville Road near River Run Trail south of Greenville.
Deputies say a man was driving and didn’t follow the curve of Greenville Road.
They say he crashed with a woman driving in the other direction.
The woman died at the scene.
Deputies say the road was covered in snow which may have been a factor in the crash.
