Neptune NJ Walmart shooting suspect charged with attempted murder

View Comments NEPTUNE - A township man has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting in the parking lot of a Walmart on Route 66 that left one man injured on Wednesday, authorities said. Mark Ruffin Jr., 22, was also charged with second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said in a news release. The shooting happened about 1:09 p.m. in the Walmart parking lot, according to the news release. Neptune police responded and found one man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Neptune shooting near Walmart injures one

NEPTUNE - An unidentified person was hospitalized Wednesday afternoon after being shot at the Walmart on Route 66 and then found near the Rutgers Terrace about a mile away, law enforcement sources confirmed. Around 1:30 p.m., township police responded to a report of an individual suffering from a gunshot wound they had sustained at the Walmart parking lot, according to Charles Webster, a spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor s Office. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but his current condition was not immediately available, Webster said. No other injuries have been reported at this time and the number of suspects involved in the shooting is unknown, according to Webster.

The man Harris shot on October 18, 2019 later recovered after being treated at the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. A joint investigation between the MCPO and APPD began after the arrival of Asbury Park Police that day around 1:12 pm and they later identified Harris as the shooter. The United States Marshals Regional Task Force, the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, and Asbury Park Police Department all teamed up to arrest Harris and transport him to the Monmouth County Corrections Institution where he remains awaiting his First Appearance and Detention Hearing.
