Police searching for hit-and-run driver after 77-year-old woman found on side of road

A 77-year-old woman was struck Tuesday night by a hit-and-run driver in Matawan, according to a statement from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
The Matawan resident remained in critical condition Wednesday night at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune Township, the office said.
The Matawan Police Department was called to Freneau Road near the Mediterranean Chateau restaurant in town shortly before 7 p.m. for a report of a body in the road, authorities said.
Police found the woman lying in the shoulder of the northbound lane of the road and she was treated at the scene by local paramedics before she was taken to the hospital, police said.

MATAWAN - Authorities are asking for the public s help in finding the motorist who fled after striking and seriously injuring a 77-year-old woman on Freneau Avenue Tuesday evening.
The woman, who was not identified, remains hospitalized in critical condition, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said in a news release.
The hit-and-run crash happened shortly before 7 p.m. when police responded to a report of a body on the shoulder of Freneau Avenue in front of the Portuguese restaurant Mediterranean Chateau, according to the news release.
Matawan police found the woman lying on the shoulder on the northbound side of the road. She was treated at the scene by Matawan First Aid and paramedics from the Monmouth Ocean Hospital Service Corp. and then taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, authorities said.

Two people were hospitalized after a stabbing outside a New Jersey high school Monday afternoon, and a 20-year-old man now faces attempted murder charges, prosecutors in Monmouth County said Wednesday.

The superintendent of Asbury Park Public Schools said that it appeared two or more students had a disagreement during the school day, and it continued after dismissal. Superintendent Sancha Gray said an individual who does not attend the school may have provided a weapon to one of the students after school.
