TOMS RIVER - A Lakewood woman whose baby daughter died after being left unattended in a hot car for hours pleaded guilty on Friday to endangering the welfare of a child, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor s Office.
Chaya Shurkin, 27, was charged in connection with the May 6, 2019 tragedy. The baby had been left alone with the car turned off for about two-and-a-half hours, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said in a news release.
Prosecutors will not seek jail time for Shurkin and instead recommend a term of probation at her sentencing, which is scheduled for July 23, Billhimer said.

“Last year we passed through a very critical phase here in America and we had the experience, and this year India is passing through a similar if not worse phase,” said Avinash Gupta, who is chief of cardiology at Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus.

A 36-year-old New Jersey man was charged with murder in connection to the death of his baby daughter earlier this week, the Ocean County s prosecutor announced Thursday.
