About 600 special needs students ages 16 and older have registered for coronavirus vaccinations starting Wednesday in a program sponsored by Lakewood Public Schools following Gov. Phil Murphy’s order last month making the students eligible for shots, a district spokesman said. Michael Inzelbuch, who serves as board attorney and spokesman for the Lakewood Public Schools Board of Education, said this will be the first time a school district sponsors vaccinations for students. “We have a very needy population,” said Inzelbuch, noting that 100% of the district’s 6,400 mostly Hispanic public school students qualify for free or reduced-cost lunches.
