A Denville man was accused Tuesday of setting fire to his home after he murdered his mother and left her body inside, authorities said.
Anthony Citro, 41, of Denville was charged with murder, arson and weapons-related offenses, according to a joint statement from the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office and the Denville Police Department.
Police and firefighters were called to Citro’s home at 37 Chestnut Hill Drive East at 7:24 a.m. on Monday after they received a 911 call reporting a fire there, the office said. When police arrived, they found Citro outside the home with blood on his clothes as smoke was seen coming from inside, they said.
Mayes was also charged with third-degree financial facilitation of criminal activity (money laundering), Carroll said.
“Our Narcotics Task Force has been successful in our covert and overt investigations into for-profit narcotics distributors thanks to the cooperative efforts of our chiefs of police and Sheriff James Gannon, who supply talented Task Force officers,” Carroll said.
“The men and women of our Special Enforcement Unit continue to work through the dangers of handling illicit narcotics, high risk operations and the current public health crisis, in our ongoing effort to improve the quality of life in Morris County.”
The Parsippany Troy-Hills Police Department, the Long Hill Police Department, the Wharton Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, the Morristown Bureau of Police and the Morris County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit also assisted with the investigation.
NJ county urges COVID-19 vaccines ahead of in-person high school, college graduations WABC
One county in New Jersey is urging high school and college seniors to get vaccinated against the novel coronavirus ahead of in-person graduation ceremonies.
Morris County and Atlantic Health System launched an initiative to urge students to schedule appointments at the Morris County Regional COVID-19 Vaccination Center at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall in Rockaway Township via the Atlantic Health System s website. We are grateful for the fast work of our county professionals who organized this important initiative in just a few days, Morris County Commissioner Director Stephen Shaw said. I also want to recognize the extensive expertise Atlantic Health System staff are bringing to the program as they insert appointments for these young men and women into the intricate operations at the busy vaccination center.
