A little over a year ago, most people probably didn’t think too much about their local health department.
“I’m quite comfortable being in the shadows. I’m not a person who ever needs any glory,” said Morgan County Health Department Administrator Dale Bainter. “You don’t go into public health expecting someone to sing your accolades. But I am thankful to see so many of my colleagues get the credit that they deserve.”

The COVID-19 pandemic led health officials in 2020 to recommend that people keep their distance, wear a face mask, sanitize and wash their hands properly in a bid to slow the novel coronavirus.
Those recommendations also did their part to all but stomp out flu season in west-central Illinois.
As the COVID-19 infection rate peaked in the fall in the region, Scott Boston, Passavant Area Hospital president, recommended that everyone get a flu shot to try to prevent the region being hard hit by a COVID-19 and flu one-two punch.

th District U.S. Congressman Darin LaHood toured the Morgan County Health Department’s COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Passavant this morning. LaHood spoke with health officials that included Health Department Administrator Dale Bainter, Passavant Area Hospital President and CEO Dr. Scott Boston, and ESDA Director for Morgan County Phil McCarty.
LaHood spoke with the group for more than a half-hour in the lobby’s main hall about both the successes and the needs in Morgan County’s vaccination efforts. Following a tour of the clinic, LaHood commended healthcare workers in Morgan County for their continued efforts in distributing the vaccine.
