CO Pork Producers Council The Colorado Pork Producers Council will gather in person for their annual meeting the first time since the coronavirus pandemic began. The Council plans to hold its 2021 annual meeting at the Morgan County Fairgrounds in Brush on February 22nd. Executive Director Joyce Kelly says agenda items include the election of new board members, updates from the U.S. Meat Export Federation, the National Pork Board, and the National Pork Producers Council. Members will continue to discuss ways to promote what Kelly calls, “pork’s environmental story.” Kelly; “The impacts that we have made on the environment. That we really are helping the environment. People don’t realize that over the last 50 years we have reduced our carbon footprint by 7.7%. That doesn’t sound alike but when you look at it it’s huge. We have double the amount of pork being produced from 12 billion pounds to 24 billion pounds using 76% less land, 25% less water, and 7% less ener

The public s confusion and frustration over scheduling COVID-19 vaccinations have health officials working on ways to streamline the process. A text messaging service is one way Sangamon County officials plan to get the word out about available appointments for the vaccine. Health officials in surrounding counties are using a variety of methods to reach the public on the issue and sometimes finding themselves overwhelmed. Counties aren t all focusing on the same age groups for the limited supplies of vaccine they have received, and state officials say it s unknown when supplies will become more plentiful. Online comments indicate the public is frustrated by the relatively small number of vaccine doses at local health departments at a time when the nation s public health infrastructure is trying to respond to the global pandemic.

The Morgan County Fairgrounds will open at 9 a.m. only for those scheduled to receive a shot that day. Those who have not pre-registered will be asked to schedule a time and return on that date. Organizers said no line will be allowed to form before the opening time and participants should be prepared to wait. Registration for those age 70 and older is available by calling 217-479-1817. The closed distribution is hosted by Morgan County Health Department in conjunction with the Jacksonville Morgan County Office of Emergency Management, Passavant Area Hospital and the Jacksonville Fire Department.
