Investigators Believe Sunday Shooting an Isolated Incident

By Jeremy Coumbes on March 1, 2021 at 3:52pm Jacksonville Police were called at 5:23 Sunday morning to the 800 block of Hoagland Boulevard after a caller to the Joint Morgan County Dispatch Center reported gunshots being fired in the parking lot of the Turner High Rise Apartment Complex. According to police records, the caller stated they heard seven to eight shots fired and could hear screaming. Jacksonville Police Investigators say while officers searched the area of the incident, 26-year-old Malcom Fitts of Chicago and formerly of Jacksonville arrived at Passavant Area Hospital by a personal vehicle. Fitts was pronounced dead at 6:52 yesterday morning at Passavant, according to a joint statement this morning by Police Chief Adam Mefford and Morgan County Coroner Marcy Patterson.

Shooting Near Turner High Rise Building Leaves One Dead

Jacksonville Police were called at approximately 5:23 this morning to the 800 block of Hoagland Boulevard in reference to a report of gunshots being fired. According to a press release from Jacksonville Police, officers searched the area while an unnamed 26 year old male victim was located and transported to Passavant Area Hospital by LifeStar EMS. According to a separate release from Morgan County Coroner Marcy Patterson, the unidentified male victim was pronounced dead at Passavant at 6:52 this morning. The official cause of death is pending an autopsy and the identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin

Coroner: Woman found dead near Morgan County boat ramp not a homicide case

Dec 16, 2020 / 12:33 PM EST MORGAN COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) Investigators say a woman found dead near a boat ramp in Morgan County was not a homicide victim. The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating the death of 28-year-old Meredith Miller of Morgantown since Dec. 11. Her body was found near the Henderson Ford Boat Ramp around 1:30 a.m. by a deputy who was checking the area. Investigators initially could not identify her and released photos of her tattoo to help learn her name. On Wednesday morning, investigators announced that an autopsy conducted by the Morgan County Coroner’s Office found that Miller was not murdered. Her toxicology results are pending.
