Katie Vannicola, an emergency room nurse who got into health care as a second career choice, was among the first to receive the COVID-19 vaccine Wednesday at the St. Luke’s Campus of the Mohawk Valley Health System.
“I’m excited to be part of the process,” she said. “I see this as a very critical step to get the virus under control.”
Vannicola – who came into nursing after an original career as an electrical engineer – has worked at St. Luke’s for about a year. She had previously worked as a nurse for 15 months in the ICU Support Pool at SUNY Upstate in Syracuse.
