This follows statements made by Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) deputy political leader Farley Augustine, at a news conference on Tuesday, that the party which wins the popular vote in Monday’s Tobago House of Assembly (THA) election should lead the assembly.

“Undemocratic!” That is how the leader of the Progressive Democratic Patriots(PDP) Farley Augustine, describes the move by the People’s National Movement (PNM)to remain in office without meeting to quickly resolve the 6/6 Tobago House of Assembly’s elections’ results impasse. The two groups met in the Assembly Legislature, Jerningham Street, Scarborough, on January 28 to select a Presiding Officer so that the Assembly’s legislative arm could function. Instead, they both nominated and seconded two different persons for the post. The PNM selected Ingrid Melville, while the PDP chose Julien Skeete. After voting by secret ballots and publicly twice, there was an impasse.

No party plans at hotels for New Year’s Eve The popular Magdalena Grand Beach and Golf Resort in Lowlands. - DAVID REID There are no parties or major events planned for hotel guests this year, as hotel restaurants and bars will close promptly at 10pm tonight in keeping with the Ministry of Health’s covid19 regulations. Newsday spoke to a few hotels on Thursday and asked about their plans for hotel guests at midnight. Earlier on Thursday morning, Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith issued a statement saying hotels and restaurants that have been advertising New Year’s Eve events will be visited by police.
