United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg (UFFW) boss Alex Forrest is asking the province to remove Winnipeg’s ambulance service from city oversight.
The request comes after years of feuding between the UFFW and the Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union Local 911 (MGEU), which represents ambulance paramedics. On Oct. 7, a firestorm of controversy swept over the unions after the delayed transport of a severely injured woman with self-inflicted stab wounds.
