TORONTO In order to convince everyone in racialized communities to get the COVID-19 vaccine, experts are warning officials not to ignore the racist elephant in the room anymore.
High-profile racist incidents and damning reports involving racialized patients have deepened mistrust for some in Black, Indigenous and communities of colour, experts told CTVNews.ca. And this in part, has led to vaccine hesitancy defined by the World Health Organization as people purposely delaying receiving available vaccines. To get ahead of this, experts are urging federal and provincial public health officials to better target messaging and approach to specific groups (including those with disabilities) because they said the approach right now isn t cutting it.

The premier argues federal Indigenous Services Minister Marc Miller should take a stand against band council rules that are weaker than Manitoba’s code-red restrictions. It’s not being kind to First Nations people to say you respect rules that are endangering those First Nations people. It’s being thoughtless, Pallister said at a news conference on Tuesday.
Manitoba Premier Provides Update on COVID-19 Immunization Campaign
In Winnipeg, Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister announces the province’s first COVID-19 immunization clinic is ready and will launch the morning of December 16th. Nearly 900 priority health-care workers are scheduled to receive the vaccine at the clinic, which is located in Winnipeg, by the end of the week. The premier also announces that the province will establish 6 additional vaccination sites in Brandon, Thompson, Steinbach, Gimli, Portage la Prairie and The Pas.
