Industrial, commercial and institutional builds lagged significantly in 2020 and need a shot in the arm soon.
So described Construction Association of Rural Manitoba executive director Shawn Wood, who pointed to a handful of statistics he considers cause for concern.
Total non-residential building permits in Brandon last year were down 79.8 per cent compared to 2019, dropping to $21.3 million from $105.5 million.
The 2019 numbers were bolstered by a few large projects, including Maryland Park School (approximately $18 million), the Koch Fertilizer plant expansion ($26 million), the new Holiday Inn Express ($12 million) and a $17-million chemical storage building at the Municipal Water Treatment Facility.
