BENGALURU: The Karnataka government on Sunday relaxed norms for gym operators allowing them to function with 50% occupancy, only two days after all gyms were ordered closed in the wake of rising Covid-19 cases. A number of representations were received by the chief minister to relax the restriction with certain conditions. It is now decided that gyms will be allowed to remain open with the condition that the occupancy at any time cannot exceed 50% of the capacity, the Sunday order issued by chief secretary P Ravi Kumar reads.

BENGALURU: In the wake of Covid-19 cases rising sharply again, the Karnataka government on Friday notified a new set of restrictions to curb the spread of infection. These include suspension of offline classes for higher education and professional courses, closure of gyms and swimming pools, 50% seating in cinema halls in eight districts and restricted seating in pubs and restaurants.
These restrictions in Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Mysuru, Kalaburagi, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Bidar and Dharwad districts will be effective till April 20. The state reported 4,991 positive cases on Friday, the highest single-day spike during the second wave, and a positivity rate (number of persons turning positive for 100 tests) of 4.19%. Bengaluru saw its daily Covid count cross the 3,500 mark with a positivity rate of 5.41%.

DAVANAGERE: Offline classes at Davanagere s Basavanahalli High School and College have been suspended after 26 students tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday.
The Karnataka government on Friday issued a fresh set of Covid-19 guidelines to curb the virus spreading in the state that said that classes from 6-9 will be suspended, gyms, swimming pools to remain closed, rallies, dharnas will be prohibited, and a maximum 50 per cent seating capacity in cinema halls will be allowed.
In the districts of Bengaluru Urban and Rural including BBMP, Mysuru, Kalburgi, Dakshin Kannada, Udupi, Bidar and Hubali-Dharwad, the number of customers in pubs, bars, clubs, restaurants shall not exceed 50 per cent of the capacity.
