Sir,
Kudos to Mysuru City Traffic Police for their action in apprehending the minors and their parents for all sorts of traffic rules violations (apropos the news item “Law catches up with underage drivers” in SOM dated Feb.28).
Minors definitely cannot ride a vehicle without the knowledge or permission of their parents or guardians. Because of peer pressure or wrong influence, minors commit traffic rules violations. It is the responsibility of the elders to guide them correctly. Both the minors and their parents or guardians deserve to be punished strictly as per the law when the traffic rules are violated.
Sir,
The news item titled “Rs. 1.50 crore collected as fines every month” appearing in SOM dated Feb.21 is really disturbing.
The Government of India, Government of Karnataka and Mysuru City Traffic Police are spending lakhs of rupees to educate the public about the traffic rules. But the fines collected indicate that the education has not percolated to the minds of the undisciplined vehicle owners.
Though Mysuru City Traffic Police are in the forefront for organising various types of educative traffic awareness days and traffic awareness weeks, it is sad to note that motorists have miserably failed to respond to their sincere efforts.
