Teams formed, tasks fixed for sprucing up hygiene on ORR

Ahead of Swachh Survekshan-2021, hygiene in the vicinity of Outer Ring Road (ORR), which has turned into a dump yard for solid waste and building debris, posing a health hazard to the residents living in the vicinity, is expected to return as teams comprising officers from various departments had been constituted to clean up the mess that has tainted Mysuru’s status as a clean city.
In a development that is expected to make the surroundings of ORR “debris-free”, responsibilities had been fixed on the officers from the Departments of Public Works, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, State Highways, and KRDCL, besides the Mysuru Urban Development Authority and the Mysuru City Corporation.
Plans afoot by Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board

Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board (KUWS&DB) has drawn an ambitious plan of utilising recycled drainage water in public parks and for other non-drinking water purposes in city, said H.V. Rajeev, Chairman of Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
He was speaking after inaugurating Regional Conference of Region-3 organised by Lions International Clubs District 317-A with the theme ‘Lake Development-State Prosperity’ in city this morning.
Rajeev expressed his grave concern over the disappearance of natural water bodies owing to urbanisation and said human beings have disturbed nature’s cycle by changing water routes. Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) is banking on a slew of new initiatives, including waste water recycling, in its bid to reclaim the cleanest city tag from Indore in the forthcoming Swachh Survekshan 2021.
MCC Health Officer D.G. Nagaraj told presspersons on Monday that the city was already recycling 30% of its water and utilising it for secondary purposes such as gardening and fountain maintenance, and this is expected to shore up the city’s cleanliness quotient. The other initiatives include the launch of a local app that is expected to increase the citizen feedback score.

At a function organised at Mahajana First College, Dr. B.S. Manjunathswamy, Additional Deputy Commissioner, called upon the youths to develop the habit of questioning as it was panacea to many problems being faced by the country.
He said Swami Vivekananda has been an idol for crores of Indians but they have failed to emulate him especially questioning. The youths must not accept anything without questioning but unfortunately the attitude was missing in the current generation.
