Wisdom From a Food Bank Volunteer
Joyce Grace
An awesome trick I learned to help get started. Make sure all your hangers are facing the same way. Once you wear an item, flip the hanger. After a month you will see the items you wear all the time and the ones you don t. It s time to give it to someone who would LOVE your unused items, so put them in a bag and donate them today.

If you are interested in giving back to the shelters or food banks I read a very cool post about going outside of the box.
2020 was, obviously, a brutal year for all of us but for the already less fortunate, it is getting more and more difficult to find relief here in Yakima.
Yakima s Union Gospel Mission (located at 1300 North First Street) is in desperate need of cash donations to continue to help feed, clothe and shelter the homeless here in town. Earlier today, we received a heartfelt message asking if we could put the word out to you for some much-needed assistance!
The Mission s mission statement reads as such from their website at YUGM.org: Yakima Union Gospel Mission (YUGM) is dedicated to serving men, women and children experiencing homelessness with the compassion of Christ. We provide emergency and long-term services to our guests to help them escape the struggle of life on the streets.
Yakima County donated six adult outdoor shelters, which fit about 11 people in each. Being homeless can be really, really bad, but being homeless in the snow, is awful and life-threatening, said Yakima Union Gospel Mission C.E.O., Mike Johnson.
The Gospel Mission installed heat and insulation to shelters just in time for the first snowfall said Johnson.
âWe wouldnât be able to have a safe, warm place for people when the snow starts falling, and we already had so many extra deaths this year among the homeless population, I just canât imagine how worse it would be without the generosity of our community, said Johnson.
