Youngstown has not announced a timetable for beginning either a hybrid or a five-day-a-week in-person school schedule.
According to an Ohio Department of Education website, there are 34 out of 609 public school districts that are fully remote.
The state school board backs the importance of in-person learning, and Gov. Mike DeWine said not heading to classrooms after staff vaccinations for COVID-19 is “unacceptable.”
There are 395 districts that have returned to five-day, in person classes and 180 districts that are hybrid, according to ODE.
There are some school districts, including Cleveland and Akron, on the fully remote list of school districts that have now announced in-person reopening plans.

YOUNGSTOWN The Youngstown City School District is working with HLW Fast Track Inc. McDonalds in a partnership for the “Current Scholars, Future Leaders” initiative.
Opportunities will be created for students to learn through business seminars, career shadowing, employment and on-the-job manager training.
East High School, McGuffey Elementary and Wilson Elementary are the partnership schools for this initiative.
Each of the stakeholders say students need additional learning experiences outside and beyond school buildings.
CEO Justin M. Jennings, who is focused on expanding efforts to improve school climate and culture, has said it’s a priority of the school district.

YOUNGSTOWN A vocal critic of of the state-mandated chief executive officer model of leadership that was imposed upon Youngstown City School District in 2016 is now the board of education’s president.
Ronald Shadd, 45, said he will strive to work with CEO Justin Jennings in the repair and transition of the district, so it can eventually return to local control, with the school board and superintendent working together to improve operations.
“There is a meeting already scheduled with Jennings, the chair of the Academic Distress Commission (John Richard), and myself,” Shadd said.
Jennings said he is fine with having meetings with the school board president, as long as the sessions are substantive.
