Joseph B Kope 1926-2021 | News, Sports, Jobs

YOUNGSTOWN Joseph Bernard Kope, 94, passed away Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021. He was born Aug. 5, 1926, at 439 E. Marion Ave., Youngstown, the eldest of four children of Weronika “Vera” Gutwinska and Joseph Bartholomew Kopiczenski Kope. His paternal grandparents were Paulina and Marcin Kopiczenski. His maternal grandparents were Paulina and Ferdinand Gutwinski. Joseph attended St. Stanislaus Kostka grade school, Princeton Junior High School and graduated from South High School at age 16 with the class of 1943. Joseph played the accordion, piano and organ, having been taught by Yolanda Lombard, Yolanda Collins and Esther Heyman. At an early World War II bond drive held at the Krakusy Hall on South Avenue, he gave a piano concert playing works by Chopin, Beethoven and Paderewski; $20,000 of bonds were sold that day. He also gave a piano concert to honor the Bishop of Youngstown at a Polish Arts Club dinner held at Rover’s Restaurant when he was 15 years old.

GIRARD Edward T. Beil, 84, passed away Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Born Aug. 26, 1936, in Youngstown, to Edwin and Grace Regnery Lewis (Beil), his father, Edwin, passed before his birth; he was adopted by Ralph Beil at the age of 4. He graduated from Ursuline High School in 1954 and went on to graduate from Youngstown University in 1959 with a degree in electrical engineering from the Rayen Engineering School. Ed was a licensed professional engineer. Ed was employed by Ohio Edison for 35 years, filling many diverse roles at Ohio Edison. He retired as the Warren Division manager in 1994. He went on to work for the Youngstown Warren Chamber of Commerce from 1995-2003, working to bring new business to the community.

Mahoning Valley Habitat receives $30K donation from Struthers woman s trust | News, Sports, Jobs

Dec 12, 2020 STRUTHERS – Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning Valley (HFHMV) has received a $30,000 donation from the Kathleen P. Keevey Family Trust. This gift was left to HFHMV from Keevey’s estate. Kathleen DiCiccio Keevey, a 1960 graduate from Struthers High School earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Youngstown University. She was a teacher for 30 years and taught for the Struthers City Schools, for the Diocese of Youngstown, and retired in 2008 from St. Nicholas Elementary School in Struthers. Director of Development, Kristina Nicholas said, “These funds couldn’t come at a better time. Due to COVID we had to cancel our in-person Building Hope fundraiser which is our largest revenue generating event of the year. This gift will allow us to keep building houses, community, and hope in the Mahoning Valley.”
