Taiwan shares end higher in last session of 2020

Taipei, Dec. 31 (CNA) Shares in Taiwan closed higher on Thursday, the last trading session of 2020, registering a rise of 22.8 percent, or 2,735.39 points, for the whole of the year.
The weighted index on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE), or Taiex, edged up 44.83 points, or 0.31 percent, to reach 14,732.53, on turnover of NT$257.3621 billion (US$9.03 billion). It surged at one point to a record high of 14,760 during the trading session.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out a year ago in China, the domestic stock market has fluctuated sharply, recovering from a low of 8,523.63 in March amid fears over the spread of the virus.
Yang Ming Marine Transport shares gain 33.91% as net profit rises 739.48%

Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp (陽明海運) shares rose 33.91 percent last week, ending at their highest level in nine years on Friday, buoyed by better-than-expected profit last month.
The container shipper reported that net profit last month increased 739.48 percent year-on-year to NT$2.71 billion (US$95 million), which was almost as much as the NT$2.74 billion profit it made in the third quarter, Yang Ming said in a regulatory filing on Thursday.
Earnings per share were NT$0.92 last month, compared with NT$1.05 last quarter, while revenue reached NT$15.27 billion, up 29 percent from a year earlier, the company said.

Taipei, Dec. 23 (CNA) Shares in Taiwan staged a moderate technical rebound Wednesday after slumping a day earlier on renewed buying in electronics component stocks, dealers said.
Investors were calmer after a sell-off Tuesday, when Taiwan reported its first domestic transmission of COVID-19 since April 12, but turnover fell as more foreign institutional investors went on Christmas and New Year breaks, they said.
The weighted index on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE), the Taiex, ended up 45.63 points, or 0.32 percent, at 14,223.09, after moving between 14,134.87 and 14,247.79, on turnover of NT$219.57 billion (US$7.81 billion).

Taipei, Dec. 14 (CNA) Shares in Taiwan moved lower Monday as larg cap stocks, in particular in the bellwether electronics sector, came under downward pressure throughout the session, dealers said.
Market sentiment has been hurt by foreign institutional investors cutting their holdings in recent sessions as they prepare to go on vacation for Christmas, dealers said.
The weighted index on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE), the Taiex, ended down 50.64 points, or 0.36 percent, at 14,211.05, after fluctuating between 14,182.25 and 14,270.34, on turnover of NT$232.38 billion (US$8.24 billion).
