KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 16 (Bernama): The inaugural Asean Digital Ministers’ Meeting (ADGMIN1) will start on Monday with the Senior Officials Meeting (ADGSOM1), laying the groundwork for reshaping Asean’s post-Covid-19 digital landscape.
The virtual meeting from Jan 18-22, hosted by the Communications and Multimedia Ministry from the Kuala Lumpur Hilton, is expected to adopt the Asean Digital Masterplan 2025 (ADM2025).
ADGSOM1, to be headed by the ministry’s secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohammad Mentek, will also see virtual meetings with dialogue partners - the United States, China, Japan, South Korea, India and the European Union (EU) - and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

pic), said while it is important for the respective governments in Asean to work to increase the broadband penetration across their lands, the Asean market should create the demand necessary for private-public partnerships to happen, thus creating a sustainable way to develop the bloc’s digital economy. Notwithstanding the spurt in growth especially in other developing Asean countries, Asean will be a force to reckon with when it comes to the adaptation into the digital economy.

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 14 Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah will chair the first Asean Digital Ministers’ Meeting (ADGMIN1) via teleconference from January 21 to 22.
Themed “Asean: A Digitally Connected Community”, the meeting seeks to strengthen cooperation among Asean countries towards building digital ecosystems as a pillar in the post-Covid-19 development plan.
The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) in a statement today said the emphasis would be on the importance of centralisation and unity in efforts to develop the Asean Community in the areas of cybersecurity, personal data protection, 5G, and promoting innovations and e-commerce.
