MP expects region to move up Covid-19 tier

RYEDALE’S MP has said he expects the region to move into a higher coronavirus tier this week. Kevin Hollinrake, MP for Thirsk and Malton, who took part in the weekly North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum call yesterday (Tuesday), said:”There is no doubt that rates are climbing significantly and North Yorkshire rates are at similar levels to areas that were put into Tier 3. “I am still arguing for a super local approach to keep some districts in Tier 2, but regrettably, I think we can reasonably expect York and North Yorkshire to enter a higher tier in the next few days, my best guess being the early hours of New Year’s Day.

CORONAVIRUS: Remain vigilant plea to people in Ryedale

RYEDALE residents are being asked to remain vigilant over the Christmas period following a rise in coronavirus infection rates. Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced at the weekend that the five-day festive window for people to visit each other was reduced to just Christmas Day. Richard Flinton, chief executive of North Yorkshire County Council, said: “Over the weekend, we saw the relaxation of the rules over Christmas tightened again, we learned a little more about the new strain of the coronavirus and its rapid growth. “Sadly, we also saw infection rates in some areas of North Yorkshire growing in a very worrying way once again.
