Schools and colleges start home-learning

SCHOOLS and colleges in England have been asked to shift to remote learning as part of a third national lockdown announced by the Prime Minister. In his Monday evening address, Boris Johnson announced the biggest changes to schooling since the first lockdown nearly 10 months ago as part of harsher restrictions. The plans will be in place until at least February half-term. Vulnerable children and those of key workers will still be able to go to colleges, primary and secondary schools, and Mr Johnson said nurseries and other early years settings will remain open in England. Mr Johnson also said it would not be “possible or fair” for all exams to go ahead as normal in the summer, and added that, “The Education Secretary will work with Ofqual to put in place alternative arrangements”.

Three further Covid deaths recorded at York trust hospitals

Coronavirus THERE have been three further deaths related to Covid-19 recorded at hospitals in the York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation trust, the latest figures confirm. The data from NHS England shows that the total number of deaths related to the virus in the York trust is now 388. The trust includes York Hospital and Scarborough. There have been 82 more deaths in the North East and Yorkshire region. Nationally, a further 674 people, who tested positive for the coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 53,069. Patients were aged between 21 and 101 years old. All except 29, aged 50 to 101 years old, had known underlying health conditions.

The death, reported yesterday, brings the number who have died at York and Scarborough Hospitals since the pandemic began to 374. The patient died before yesterday and their family have been informed. The NHS in England reported 420 deaths in the 24 hours ended at 4pm yesterday. All occurred after the patient had had a positive Covid-19 test. In the UK as a whole, 613 more people have died following positive Covid-19 tests, the Government announced this afternoon. There were 53,285 new positive tests.

The data from NHS England shows that the total number of deaths related to the virus in the York trust is now 370. The trust includes both York Hospital and Scarborough. There have been 71 more deaths related to the virus in the North East and Yorkshire region. Nationally, a further 494 people, who tested positive for the coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 49,719. Patients were aged between 30 and 100 years old. All except 20, aged 36 to 92 years old, had known underlying health conditions.

The data from NHS England shows that the total number of deaths related to the virus in the York trust is now 366. The trust includes York Hospital and Scarborough. There have been 73 more deaths related to the virus in the North East and Yorkshire region. Nationally, a further 365 people, who tested positive for the coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 49,225. Patients were aged between 26 and 101 years old. All except 12, aged 43 to 92 years old, had known underlying health conditions.
