Governor Tom Wolf announced today that 250 Cross Farm Lane, LLC (CFL), a subsidiary of PSC Biotech Corporation, will open a new contract pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in York County. CFL will transfer equipment, staff, and customers from its Wisconsin site to CFL in Conewago Township, investing over $22 million and bringing 100 new jobs to the region. CFL intends to change its name to BioTechnique.

Back in April 2020, that’s how we summed up an hour-long webinar analyzing COVID-19’s impact on York County. During the webinar, we discussed York County Economic Alliance’s recently-completed report that predicted 18-30% of our county’s small businesses were at risk of permanent closure. We outlined the trickle-down effect of childcare centers closing or reducing capacity and the impact it would have on working parents trying to maintain employment in an increasingly perilous jobs market. We also warned that if federal relief programs were not administered wisely then vulnerable populations particularly people living at or near the poverty level and historically-disadvantaged businesses and communities would face disproportionate hardships.

As local areas and states keep slugging away at the digital divide, time and money may separate the winners from the losers in the broadband infrastructure game. One potential way to save time and money is through a “dig-once” approach, which refers to the idea of minimizing “the number and scale of excavations when installing telecommunications infrastructure in highway rights-of-way,” according to the Federal Highway Administration.
