Central Pa. couple who were shot get prison time in federal tax fraud case

A Camp Hill couple, who was shot at their former Lower Windsor Township residence in September 2018, was sentenced to federal prison this week for tax fraud.
Matthew and Kim Forney, shot by their daughter’s boyfriend at their York County residence, will both serve one year in prison, according to the United State’s Attorney’s Office for the Middle District.
Matthew Forney, 42, pleaded guilty to four counts of tax evasion and Kim Forney, 48, pleaded guilty to four counts of aiding in the preparation of false tax returns.

(TNS) A city-wide surveillance network pitched by York, Pa., City officials would be a tool used by police to disproportionately target Black and brown communities, said a spokesperson for the state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union.
But Lancaster s city-wide video surveillance network, run by the Lancaster Safety Coalition, on which York City officials are considering basing the local system, is a valuable and effective tool in knocking down crime rates, says a 2015 study.
President Judge Maria Musti Cook ordered Kevin Nagle, 46, of McSherrystown, to immediately begin completing the remainder of his sentence of one year minus one day to two years minus two days in York County Prison. He had been free on supervised bail pending the outcome of his appeal, which the Pennsylvania Supreme Court refused to hear in December.
The York County District Attorney’s Office, she noted, had asked for a sentence of three to six years in prison. Cook said she gave significant thought to the factors that she’s required to consider at sentencing and did not believe that she had jurisdiction to modify the punishment.

Widespread video surveillance could be York City s next strategy to fight crime, Police Commissioner Michael Muldrow said Monday.
Muldrow said local private organizations are interested in raising funds for a surveillance network similar to one already in place throughout Lancaster City. Those groups would secure the funding for the camera network, Muldrow said, and an independent organization would oversee it. I think that it will quickly become an invaluable tool, that if we would be able to pull it off in York, would dramatically impact our communities quickly, Muldrow said.
