A shooting suspect is in police custody after being tied to a midday shootout outside a Westchester business, authorities announced.
A 33-year-old man was shot inside of a West 3rd Street business in Mount Vernon on Monday, May 31 before managing to flee the area on foot as he sought assistance from other parties in the area for treatment of gunshot wounds.
After the victim fled, the shooter, later identified as Bronx resident Santano Williams, age 42, exited the business and began walking away, at which point he was confronted by Eastchester resident Gladstone Dankin, age 33.
According to police, Williams was confronted by Dankin and the two exchanged gunfire in the street. Neither was struck by the bullets and both fled the area on foot.

An inmate who went missing from a jail barge in the Bronx early Saturday has been captured, police said.
David Mordukhaev, 30, was reported missing from his assigned housing area when officers checked, Deputy Commissioner of Public Information Peter Thorne told CNN in a statement.
Police say that Mordukhaev escaped from the Vernon C. Bain Center, nicknamed The Boat, at 4:15 a.m. UPDATE: David has been apprehended, the New York Police Department tweeted Saturday evening, without giving any details.
It was not immediately clear why Mordukhaev was being held at the facility.

NYPD: Prisoner escapes custody in Bronx

NEW YORK (AP) The New York City Department of Corrections said late Saturday that a prisoner who escaped custody in the Bronx earlier in the day had been captured.
The 30-year-old man had escaped from a floating jail off the Bronx that is part of the Vernon C. Bain Correction Center, authorities said.
DOC Commissioner Vincent Schiraldi issued a statement late Saturday to say the escape remains under investigation. He said the DOC will be thoroughly addressing “any and all” deficiencies that led to the escape.
He said those involved in the search for the prisoner included the DOC Correction Intelligence Bureau, the U.S. Marshals Service, the NYPD, and other law enforcement partners.
