New FMCSA deputy administrator appointed

Biden administration appoints new FMCSA deputy administrator Meera Joshi, who formerly ran a high-profile department overseeing taxi and ride-sharing services in New York City, was appointed by President Joe Biden as deputy administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Meera JoshiJoshi will oversee the day-to-day operations of the FMCSA until an administrator can be appointed and confirmed by the Senate. Because the FMCSA deputy administrator position is a presidentially-appointed post, Joshi s predecessor Wiley Deck s tenure came to a close when Biden was inaugurated last week.  Joshi takes over from Deck, who had been FMCSA’s deputy administrator since acting administrator Jim Mullen left the agency last summer. Mullen replaced Ray Martinez, who was President Donald Trump’s original FMCSA administrator and who served for 20 months.

Dr. Shepard passed away at his home in Sag Harbor on December 17, 2020, at the age of 86. The cause was recently diagnosed cancer. He was the subject of an extensive interview with book reviewer Norm Goldman on the website bookpleasures.com in 2011. The piece began with the author noting that The Permanent Press, which the Shepards owned, was committed “to publishing works of social and literary merit and has, over the decades, gained a reputation as one of the finest independent presses in America.”

The crack epidemic of the 1980s swept him up, consumed him, and left him with PTSD in the South Bronx community he calls home. He’s now in his late 50s and continues to battle addiction while managing a diagnosis of bipolar disorder.
