ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) As the pace of COVD-19 vaccinations has slowed, New York officials are trying a mix of mandates and incentives to overcome hesitancy, including free subway rides.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the state can t mandate vaccines until they get full approval from the federal government. If that happens, New York will require students of the state s and New York City s public university and college systems to get vaccinated to attend in-person classes this fall, Cuomo said in a Monday press conference in New York City.

New York New York is ending its residency requirement for Covid-19 vaccines, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said today.
Anyone can now come to the state and get a shot, Cuomo said during a press conference in New York City.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said last week he wanted to roll out vaccine clinics for visiting tourists. The state approved, according to NBC New York.
NYPD investigators think shooter in Times Square was targeting his brother, law enforcement sources say
New York Police Department investigators are looking for a 31-year-old man they believe to be the shooter who left three people injured in Times Square over the weekend, according to two law enforcement officials.
The law enforcement officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation, say the man intended to shoot his brother when he opened fire on Saturday, injuring a 4-year-old girl from Brooklyn and two female tourists.
All three are now out of the hospital and “it looks like they’ll make a strong recovery,” New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said Monday at a news conference.
