TROY, N.Y. â Fire Chief Eric McMahon provided an update on the fatal fire that happened in the early morning hours of April 25, on 4th Street in Troy.
According to McMahon, in addition to the 20 people who were displaced, Connor White, 7, of Troy and Waterford, died. The autopsy revealed that his death was caused by the inhalation of heat and the products of combustion.
McMahon explained investigation revealed that the fire originated on the first floor of 388 Fourth Street and spread north to the two-story duplex of 384 and 386 Fourth Street and south to 390 Fourth Street. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Several fire departments were called out Thursday night to battle flames at a vacant warehouse in the Town of Barton, just outside the Village of Waverly line.
The blaze broke out in a building off Broad Street Extension, just to the west of the Midwestern Pet Foods plant.
One firefighter suffered minor injuries fighting the blaze, authorities said. Nobody else was hurt.
The structure sustained heavy damage. Investigators from the Tioga County Office of Emergency Services and New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control were on the scene Friday morning, along with New York State Police investigators and troopers.

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - The union which represents professional firefighters in New York state says it has âserious concernsâ about an incident which left a firefighter trainee from Watertown in serious condition in a Pennsylvania hospital.
The firefighter - who has not been publicly identified - suffered a âmedical emergency during a training exercise,â according to Watertown fire chief Matthew Timerman.
The firefighter trainee was one of two trainees from the Watertown fire department participating in an 11 week training course at the State Academy of Fire Science Training in Montour Falls, near Watkins Glen.
