The process for vaccinating those who work- and live- at nursing homes across New York State will be starting on Monday. Stephen Hanse, president of the New York State Health Facilities Association, tells Spectrum News that the vaccine process offers a bit of hope. “This was the key element to defeat this virus.” Hanse said. “And now that we have the vaccination in place, it truly is the light at the end of the tunnel and will go a long way to eradicating the COVID-19 virus.”

COVID-19 Vaccines Will Be In Monroe County Soon

Before they can get the vaccine, the residents need to sign consent forms. Nursing homes have had weeks to prepare for this but it’s proving to be harder than they thought. “It’s an ongoing process, and it’s happening right now,” said Stephen Hanse, president and CEO of New York State Health Facilities Association, an organization representing the state’s hundreds of nursing facilities. “This is the end of the tunnel, it really is,” he said. According to Hanse, the federal government is using pharmacies like Walgreens and CVS to distribute the vaccine. That way the already over-worked nursing home staff can see to their other duties in the meantime.
