But the pandemic has dramatically reduced ridership, and transit systems are facing budget crises as a result. At this time last year, tens of millions of Americans were riding subways, busses, trains and street cars for their daily commutes, quietly paying the required fare in both directions. But in the dumpster-fire year of 2020, in which COVID-19 upended how we live, that routine now seems inconceivable, at least until a vaccine is widely available.

New York City Emergency Management has issued hazardous travel advisory for Wednesday and Thursday, expecting eight to 12 inches of snow accumulation in the city, reports Xinhua news agency. The combination of heavy snow and wind conditions could cause near-blizzard conditions, the Management warned in a statement.

Foye said. “Congress should stay in session until passing a COVID relief bill that includes funding for public transportation.” The New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Board on Dec. 16 agreed on a 2021 budget and 2021-24 financial plan that assumes federal relief will arrive despite Congress’ continuing debate on the next COVID-19 relief package. Officials said the budget assumes MTA will receive $4.5 billion as part of that package.
