April 22nd was Earth Day. For over five decades, the world has marked Earth Day as a time to reflect on the state of the environment and to debate how best to improve the only habitat we have.
This year’s Earth Day took place under the shadow of a worldwide pandemic that continues to rage. Last year was the first year that the world began its struggle with COVID-19, but that struggle obscured the efforts of the Trump Administration to roll back environmental protections.
The Biden Administration has taken a very different tack. Like its approach to the coronavirus pandemic, the Biden Administration has relied on science to drive its policymaking when it comes to the existential threat posed by climate change.

Redistricring will be controlled by a state redistricing commission, whose members are appointed by the state legislature. Democrats control the governor’s seat and hold a supermajority in both houses of the State Legislature.
Blair Horner with the New York Public Interest Research Group said it’s likely that upstate’s four Republican seats could be consolidated into just three that favor GOP voters.
“Supermajorities in both houses is obviously a bad omen for Republican members of the House of Representatives,” Horner said.

By the slimmest of margins just 89 people New York will slip from 27 to 26 congressional districts after next year’s elections, now that the 2020 census figures show the state’s population is not growing as quickly as most other states.
The Census Bureau said if 89 more residents had been counted, and other states’ population counts had remained the same, New York would not have lost the seat.
The data released Monday showed New York had a total of 20,215,751 residents in 2020, up from 2010, but most other states grew more quickly.

As of Monday night, about 2.1% of the student population had cast their votes in the election, which includes the first president and vice president campaign to run unopposed since 2015. After the first day of voting last year, about 4.9% of students had voted. The election needs at least 10% of students to vote for the results to be valid.
