Thailand and the European Union (EU) have agreed to resume negotiations on a free trade agreement (FTA), seven years after talks collapsed in 2014, following the military coup in Thailand.
If the two sides complete a deal, it would mark the EU’s third FTA with an ASEAN member state, following agreements with Singapore and Vietnam.
WANT TO INVEST IN ASEAN? WE CAN HELPAn FTA would boost the EU’s access to trade and investment in Southeast Asia’s second-largest economy, while Thai exporters would benefit from lower tariffs. Nevertheless, while momentum on an FTA has been revitalized, the EU and Thai governments need to resolve several outstanding issues to finalize an agreement.
