Local teacher named ‘EconHero’ for December

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A Vista High School teacher was honored by the Thomas R. Brown Foundation and the University of Arizona Office of Economics Education as the EconHero for December.
Vista teacher Diego Moya, is in his fifth year at the school.
He oversees the school s student council and serves as the Communication Liaison in addition to teaching economics.
Yuma Union High School District says teachers are recognized for providing excellent economic instruction to Arizona students.
Michele Garlit, a Vista teacher said, He is an energetic teacher that invites students to understand and learn about the world economy that they participate in as well as dive deep into the area of personal finance that will serve each student well when they leave high school.

YUHSD goes remote learning for the first week of spring semester

The district says it will discuss its learning schedule in their meeting on January 13, 2021
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma Union High School District (YUHSD) students will continue their education through online learning for the spring semester beginning January 6, 2021.
As for special education students, they will continue to be provided with educational services based on 504 plans and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) through distance learning.
However, on-site learning will be available to those students based on IEP team decisions.
YUHSD said it would continue to monitor weekly COVID-19 metrics released by the Arizona Department of Health Services and discuss its learning schedule in their next meeting on January 13, 2021.
