Two pro-migration activists are being prosecuted for helping Afghan migrants illegally cross the Italian border into France in November of last year.
The two activists, 28-year-old Thibault C. and 31-year-old Alexandre W., are accused of aiding an Afghan family to illegally cross the border in the commune of Montgenèvre after police observed them assisting the Afghans prior to their arrest on November 19th.
Around 300 people demonstrated outside of the courtroom on Thursday where the trial was being held, including Green Party MEPs Gwendoline Delbos-Corfield and Damien Careme,

Florent Crouhy has requested the two men be handed a two-month suspended prison sentence and but claims the pair should not be equated with people-smugglers.
National Conservative Brothers of Italy Party Surge in Polls

The national conservative Brothers of Italy party (FdI), which is in opposition to the government of Italian prime minister Mario Draghi, have surged in support in a poll.
The party, which is the only member of Italy’s centre-right coalition of parties which has not participated in the current “technical government”, is less than a percentage point behind the left-wing Democrats (PD), which remains the second-largest party in the country.
According to a report from the newspaper Il Giornale, an Agi/Youtrend survey puts the party headed by firebrand Giorgia Meloni at 17.9 per cent, behind the PD, which scored 18.8 per cent. While populist Senator Matteo Salvini’s League continues to top the polls with 22.2 per cent.

Spanish populist party VOX is being investigated over a campaign poster that compares monthly spending on migrant minors to monthly spending on Spanish pensioners.
The poster, which was launched ahead of the May 4th elections in Madrid, claims “A [migrant minor], €4,700 [£4,080/$5,670] per month, your grandmother, a €426 [£370/$514] pension per month” and shows a picture of an elderly woman and a young man with his face covered by a scarf and wearing a hoodie. Police Accused of Harassing Father of Man Killed by Migrant

German police have been accused of using illegal methods to protect a Syrian who was sentenced to probation after killing a German man, harassing the victim’s father and falsely insinuating he was a threat to the migrant.
The Dessau-Rosslau Police Inspectorate in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt has been accused of harassing 56-year-old Karsten Hempel, whose 30-year-old son Marcus Hempel was killed by a Syrian asylum seeker in 2017, by insinuating he was planning revenge against the 21-year-old migrant.
According to a report from German magazine
Focus, police arrived at the workplace of Mr Hempel, who is employed in the construction sector as a manager, in December of last year and gave him a “Gefährderansprache” danger notice, a verbal warning given to people police suspect may be a danger to others.
