Investigators with the Yates County Sheriff’s Office say a Bath woman was cited after a horse-and-buggy crash during the early morning hours on Thursday. It happened on State Rt. 54 when Melissa Carney was traveling east in the town of Benton. Her vehicle struck a horse-and-buggy traveling in the same direction. The 20-year-old, who was from Penn Yan, was thrown from the carriage, and treated at the scene.

BARRINGTON – Three women were injured in separate attacks the afternoon of March 24 in the 900 block area of East Lake Road on Keuka Lake in the town of Barrington. According to the reports filed by Yates County Animal Control Officer Tom Morris, around 2 p.m., Emily O Brien, 69, of 870 East Lake Road, was walking on the beach when she was bitten several times on the leg in an unprovoked attack by an aggressive fox. She was able to kick the animal away and was taken to Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital in Penn Yan for treatment.

In fact, the Yates County Sheriff s Office says that a female baby kangaroo was found Sunday after it had escaped from a farm in Scottsville, NY. When you think of kangaroos, naturally you think of Australia, not New York state. Nonetheless, this young animal that has broken free from its owners, drew quite a big rescue party across upstate that searched through the night  Officials say the marsupial was hungry and a bit shaken up, but was not hurt in any way.
