Rutgers picks poet, ‘The Wire’ actor for commencement speeches

Rutgers University has tapped former U.S. Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey to deliver the keynote address at its virtual commencement ceremony next month.
Trethewey, a Pulitzer Prize winner, will receive an honorary doctor of letters degree during the virtual ceremony for Rutgers University-New Brunswick and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences. The university will pay a $35,000 honorarium.
“I am honored to have been invited to address the Rutgers University graduating class,” Trethewey said. “In times of uncertainty, our academic rituals and traditions stand to remind us of our history while linking us to the future.”
