Wind energy firm launches buoys to collect data

Press of Atlantic City ATLANTIC CITY - Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind on Wednesday announced the launch of two buoys that will collect atmospheric and weather data and track the migration of birds, fish, turtles and other animals that have been tagged by researchers. Each buoy will be deployed in the offshore wind developer s lease area off Atlantic City to strengthen atmospheric models that help inform how the developer designs and estimates energy production for its proposed project, according to a news release. Some data also will help deepen research of the Mid-Atlantic Cold Pool as well as help study animal migration and stop-over activities to inform the development of offshore wind in the area.

Rutgers opens community center for adults with autism NEW BRUNSWICK  The newest offering from Rutgers University s Center for Adult Autism Services, a first-of-its-kind, 10,000-square foot Community Center is now operational on the Douglass Campus. Custom-built and designed with $9.5 million in philanthropic funds, the center currently offers three core programs: SCALE, or Supporting Community Access through Leisure and Employment, a Psychological Services Clinic, and a College Support Program for autistic undergrads. A fourth program, the Intensive Outpatient Unit for adults actively in behavioral crisis, is set to begin later this year. Dr. Christopher Manente, RCAAS founding executive director, said Rutgers commitment to helping those with autism spectrum disorders dates back to its first, university-based school for children with autism, which opened in 1972.
