But for millions of kids, that prospect is still a long way off. While many teenagers ages 16 and older are now able to get vaccinated and new data from Pfizer suggests its vaccine is safe and highly effective in children as young as 12 we’re likely months away from large swaths of kiddos rolling up their sleeves. “It’s more likely that the majority of children won’t be vaccinated until the end of this year, or the beginning of next year,” said Steven Abelowitz, a pediatrician with Coastal Kids Pediatrics in Orange County, California. He emphasized, though, that even best guesses are “all speculation” at this point.

Plastic surgeons join Franciscan Physician Network Hammond Clinic

Two new plastic surgeons have joined Franciscan Physician Network Hammond Clinic. Dr. Lisa Whitty Bradley and Dr. Mark Grevious, who are both board-certified in both plastic and reconstructive surgery, are welcoming new patients at the clinic at 7905 Calumet Ave. in Munster, as well as via MyChart virtual visits because of the pandemic. Bradley studied Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit and completed her residency in general surgery at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria. She did a fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the famed Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Her clinical interests include breast reduction, implant-based breast reconstruction, scar revision management, and benign and malignant skin lesion management.

When Jessica Pinto’s 17-year-old brother died suddenly in 2018, she wasn’t sure whether she should continue her studies to become a physician or take time off to grieve. But her father, who immigrated to the United States from Portugal with only a limited education when he was 22, encouraged his daughter to stay the course at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. Her brother wouldn’t want anything less, her father told her.
