Formal consultation on Runcorn Shopping City Health Hub plan

CONSULTATION on plans to create a new Health Hub at Runcorn Shopping City has now been launched. Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust says offering these services in a retail environment would make it easier for patient access. Halton residents would no longer have to travel out of borough to receive care, providing greater convenience, and the hub would provide an additional 3,000 outpatients appointments per year, at least, in Halton. The trust also says some services would be expanded to offer a greater range of tests. Audiology and ophthalmology would move just 300 meters from Halton Hospital’s outpatients to Shopping City, while dietetics would move from St Paul’s Health Centre – a distance of 3.5km served by public transport.

Halton confident of running full Borough of Culture scheme despite pandemic

Bryan Adams is due to perform in Widnes in July Halton’s year as the city region’s Borough of Culture has begun without the usual fanfare amid uncertainty about how long the Covid-19 pandemic will continue. The local council has planned an extensive calendar of events to celebrate its Borough of Culture year with a stadium concert from Canadian star Bryan Adams in July as the centrepiece. But with the country in lockdown, some events have already been rearranged and the council is hoping to avoid cancellations later in the year. Other plans intended to run throughout the year, including a Culture HQ at Runcorn Shopping City, will not be able to start until lockdown is lifted.

Shopping City bosses boost morale with free tea and biscuits

RUNCORN Shopping City Management Team have been busy boosting the morale of the retail staff within the centre during this third national lockdown, by hand delivering tea, coffee and biscuits to get them through the day. Centre Manager, Dave Pearman said, “We can all see how hard everyone is working, during these difficult times and we wanted the retail staff to see how much they are appreciated. So I thought this simple gesture might just give them a much needed boost. They are all doing an amazing job.” One customer advisor said “It is hard for everyone working in retail at the moment, especially as we are in our third lockdown, so when the Shopping City staff came around with drinks and snacks it made our day! It’s little gestures like this that make all the difference.”
