ETRMA adds Nexen and Czech and Slovak trade groups to membership

Print BRUSSELS The European Tyre & Rubber Manufacturers Association (ETRMA) has accepted Nexen Tire Europe and the tire producers trade associations from Czech Republic and Slovak Republic as new members, starting in 2022. With these additions, the ETRMA membership will comprise 15 tire manufacturers and 11 national sector associations. Nexen Tire Europe, a subsidiary of South Korea s Nexen Tire Corp., opened a tire factory in ETRMA Secretary General Fazilet Cinaralp noted that with these additions, Our critical mass is growing, and together we can create strong synergies to work even more efficiently towards a safer and greener Europe. The ETRMA s current 14 tire company members operate 93 manufacturing facilities (including retread plants) throughout Europe, employing over 200,000 workers and representing 300 million units of passenger and 18 million units of truck/bus tire capacity.

Neil X. McHale, Eagle Elastomer co-founder, dies at 85 Print PENINSULA, Ohio Neil X. McHale, one of the founders of Eagle Elastomer Inc., died Oct. 10, just six days shy of his 86th birthday. After graduating from high school in New York City, he spent three years with the New York City Police Department, before transferring to the New York Fire Department. After getting married, McHale attended Tri-State University in Angola, Ind., where he earned a bachelor s in chemical engineering in 1965. Following graduation, he went to work for the international division of General Tire. He worked there for 15 years, training in Akron and then serving as a compounder in Venezuela, a technical manager in Portugal, a production manager in Iran and a plant manager in Tanzania.

ETRMA supporting EU sustainable mobility strategy European Rubber Journal Print BRUSSELS The European Tyre & Rubber Manufacturers Association (ETMRA) is embracing a recently unveiled European Union Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy, stating that tires will play an important role in the decarbonization and digital transformation of the European transport system. Presented by the European Commission on Dec. 9, the strategy is structured around three key objectives: making the European transport system sustainable, smart and resilient. The roadmap has been developed in the context of the European Green Deal, which aims to reduce transport-related greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2050 in the region. The tire Industry is committed to reducing its CO2 footprint throughout the entire tire life cycle and is investing in innovative and sustainable mobility technologies, ETRMA Secretary general Fazilet Cinaralp said.
