LAHORE: Major remedies have been recommended for revitalisation of the Ravi river under the Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project following various test reports on wastewater quality.
With the launch of civil work on the project after approval and submission of the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report, the project team is set to first start work on the renaissance of the river.
“After signing of the Indus Waters Treaty, India constructed additional diversion capacity at Madhopur headworks, diverting the perennial flows. The flows that used to be released downstream to be picked up at Balloki were also diverted from Madhopur. Subsequently, India constructed Thein Dam in 2000 with a live storage capacity of 1.92 million acre feet (MAF). With this India is now capable of storing the flows that used to flow downstream of Madhopur headworks,” reads an internal report of the riverfront project.

LAHORE: The government has imposed section 5 under the Land Acquisition Act-1894, notifying chunks of land required on a priority basis for the Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project within revenue limits of Lahore city district. The land identified and notified [measuring over 2,562 kanal] is situated in seven mauzas.
According to a notification signed jointly by the Lahore commissioner, district collector, additional deputy commissioner (revenue), Ravi Urban Development Authority chairman and RUDA land acquisition collectors-1 and 2, the priority land, which has been identified to be acquired included 117 kanal and 8 marla (Mauza Harnaralnpura), seven kanal and 11 marla (Jia Musa), 300 kanal and 13 marla (Bhamma), 300 kanal (Targarh), 37 kanal and 17 marla (Shahdara), 1,226 kanal (Hardo Jabo) and 573 kanal and 3 marla (Karolwar), totaling 2,562 kanal and 12 marl

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) has on Saturday made the Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project conditional to the Environment Protection Department’s inspection and approval.
According to details, Justice Shahid Karim issued a three-page written order in which the government has been barred to start the project without environmental impact assessment (EIA).
Advocate Sheraz Zaka had filed a complaint in which it was maintained that the environmental laws were not followed in construction of the mega project which would increase pollution in future.

LAHORE: The Punjab government highlights its achievements of 2020 and among them, the most prominent are making south Punjab secretariat functional, recruitment of doctors, launching the Ravi Riverfront Urban Development project and people’s assistance programme, constructing mother and child health hospitals, issuing health and medicine cards and other development programmes.
The Punjab government says the year 2020 was fateful for south Punjab as senior officials were posted in the South Punjab secretariat along with approval of the design of the secretariat building.
Up to 25,000 doctors and paramedics were recruited in the health department as well as recruitments of 10,000 police constables.
